Application Materials and Instructions

Select: College of Arts and Sciences > Anthropology > Anthropology

1. List 1-3 department faculty with whom you wish to work.
2. Specify area (Southwest, Africa, Andes, etc.) and/or topic (e.g., human-environment interactions, women and health, linguistics, etc.) of interest.
3. Select Archaeology, Ethnology, Evolutionary Anthropology, or Public Archaeology. For archaeologists unsure whether to apply for Archaeology or Public Archaeology, choose Archaeology if your ultimate goal is the PhD; choose Public Archaeology if your goal is a Master's Degree.

Additional interests are optional.

If you wish to be considered for Museum Research Traineeship, please write "MRT" as an additional interest.

GREs are not required for admission by any Anthropology program. However, each subfield has its own policy in regards to GRE scores:

• Archaeology: GRE scores are optional, but not required
• Ethnology: GRE scores are not accepted, but a writing sample is required
• Evolutionary Anthropology: The GRE is not required for application or admittance to the program. However, students who feel that their GRE scores will be helpful in evaluating their overall academic record are welcome to submit them.
• Public Archaeology: GRE scores are optional, but not required

If Anthropology applicants decide to take the exam, take the General GRE (not a subject test).

International students must take the TOEFL or equivalent as accepted by the UNM Global Education Office.
