Congratulations on your decision to pursue graduate-level studies! We are delighted that you are considering applying to a graduate or professional program at the University of New Mexico.
Each graduate and professional program has specific requirements for admissions, as well as its own deadlines. Before applying, be sure to review the application requirements and instructions for your program of interest, as well as the information below. Please note that the Dean of Graduate Studies must approve petitions for waivers or exceptions to admissions requirements.

General Questions
General questions about the admissions process should be directed to Graduate Studies (unmgrad@unm.edu), or to the International Admissions Office (goglobal@unm.edu) for international applicants. Program-specific questions about admissions should be directed to the graduate advisor in the program or department to which you are applying. Application Instructions
To apply for admission, begin by clicking on the Start Your Application box below (or at the top of the page) and the Sign Up link at the bottom of the next page to create your username and password. An email with your username and a link to create your password will be sent to the email address you provide. This username and password allows you to return to work on your application over multiple sessions. Your information is transmitted through a secured server and is not reviewed for admission until you submit your application.
When you have completed your application and are ready to submit it, you will be required to pay an application fee via credit card online ($60 for domestic applications, $70 for international applications). No application will be processed until the correct application fee is paid or a fee waiver has been approved.
Please carefully read the instructions that appear throughout the application pages. You can only submit your application one time.
Fee Waivers
Graduate Studies accepts the following fee waiver requests.
- Participants in the following programs:
- GEM Fellowship Program
- McNair Scholars
- Mellon Mays undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF)
- Post Baccalaureate Research and Education Programs (PREP)
- Undergraduate Research Initiative for Student Enhancement (U-RISE)
- Applicants with U.S. military service (active duty, reservists, National Guard, honorably discharged veterans, retired, and disabled)
- In limited cases of financial hardship.
Application fee waivers are not available to international applicants.
All requests must be accompanied by documentation as outlined in the Fee Waiver Request Form. Please email your completed request form and documentation to grad@unm.edu. Plan to submit your request several weeks before the application deadline to allow time for processing. No application may be submitted without paying the application fee or receiving a fee waiver approval.
Reset Username or Password
If you forget your password, you may request your password by selecting the Forgot Password link on the online application sign-in page. Enter your Username and select the Request Password button. An email titled “Your New UNM Online Application Password” will be sent to the email address associated with your account. Select the Join the Pack! button and then Change Your Password. If you need assistance, send an email to unmgrad@unm.edu and we will respond by the next business day.
