Application Instructions
The following information is provided to help the prospective student successfully apply for admission to the Architecture (M.Arch) graduate program (MARCH-ARCH) at the University of New Mexico. Although Graduate Studies strives to keep this information up-to-date, we still encourage you to visit the program's website to verify application instructions and required materials.
International students (including non-U.S. citizens on a visa) generally must complete additional steps to apply to a graduate program at UNM. Please see the Global Education Office's International Admissions website for more information.

This program continues to review applications until May 31st, but cannot guarantee any slots will be open. Should these dates occur on a weekend, the Monday following becomes the receive-by deadline. Their online application will allow you to upload all your necessary documents to your program of interest. Letter of Intent | Explain why you are interested in Architecture. Related experience, background, and coursework may be mentioned, as well as professional and educational goals. Do not exceed 2 pages. |
CV/Resume | The resume should include education, employment, professional experience, publications, service, and other accomplishments. |
Relevant Coursework | Applicants that do not have a BA in Architecture from the University of New Mexico must submit course descriptions for all architecture classes completed. |
Special Requirements | Portfolio: All Master of Architecture applicants are required to submit an electronic portfolio with the online application to the program. Your portfolio should show evidence of interest in design. The portfolio should be carefully conceived, well designed, neatly prepared, and easily readable digitally. We encourage you to design your portfolio for digital review rather than submitting an electronic version of your printed portfolio. Additionally, the portfolio should provide an indication of your aptitude for thinking critically and creatively through design. This can come in many forms. Such items as photographs of executed artwork, pottery, sculpture, photographic essays, and weaving have been submitted in the past. In addition, we have received prose, poetry, published writings, and illustrated reports as evidence of an applicant’s interest and experience in dealing with design or aesthetic matters. With the new digital requirement, you can also embed links to online YouTube videos in your portfolio. All of these can be meaningful, and we encourage you to think freely about the manner in which they may meet this application requirement. For successful submission, the portfolio:

Recommendations | Three letters of recommendation are required. At least two of these three letters should be from faculty members. |
