The Letter of Intent is an intellectual autobiography that conveys the continuum of experiences in your academic life which have led you to seek an academic graduate education in education. Include a one- to two-page personal essay explaining your reasons for pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Education

Style of Statement

Typed and double-spaced; 12-point font in Times New Roman; One or two typed pages in length (no longer than two please); Clear and concise letter construction with supporting details

Organization of Statement

• Opening Paragraph
  • Introduce yourself
  • State why you are applying to the program
• Subsequent Paragraphs
  • Describe your qualifications and background
  • Describe experiences that have served as a foundation for your teaching
  • Describe your experience in working with and teaching students of diverse populations
    
    Consider the following accomplishments as they apply to your experiences:
    • Successful experiences working with school-age children
    • Experience in multicultural/diverse setting
    • Mentorship roles
    • Experiences in program/career development leadership roles in your organization
    • Other relevant professional development or educational experiences
• Closing Paragraph
  • Describe what you wish to accomplish through your graduate studies
  • Describe your educational and professional goals as a result of acquiring a Master of Arts Degree in Education

• Degrees completed
• Overall grade point average earned in undergraduate study
• Grade point average in major
• Certificates, endorsements, and teaching fields
• Any academic honors or awards you have received

Employment Experience:

• Significant employment experiences, including work with children and/or young adults
• Dates and duration of employment (beginning with most recent)
• Employer’s or company’s name
• A brief description of the position you held and your major responsibilities
• Any awards or special recognition you received

Community and/or Extra-Curricular Experiences:

Please list up to three significant extra-curricular and/or community activities in which you have participated. For each activity, please list:

• Dates and duration of activity (most recent to least recent)
• The sponsor of the activity
• A brief description of your role
• Any awards or special recognition you received

Three (3) letters of recommendation are required. Please supply accurate email information in order for delivery of the Recommendation Request. In the space provided at the bottom of this section, please ask your Recommendation Providers to address the following areas:

1. The recommendation provider’s relationship to you and the time period of the relationship
2. Your qualifications for success in a graduate program
3. The recommendation provider’s knowledge of you as an educator or your potential to be a successful educator
