The following information is provided to help the prospective student successfully apply for admission to the Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies PhD graduate program at the University of New Mexico. Educational Background | Applicants must upload unofficial transcripts or their application will be considered incomplete. Official transcripts must also be sent directly to the UNM Office of Admissions. |
Program of Interest | Select: College of Education and Human Sciences > Language/Literacy/Sociocultural Studies > Language/Literacy/Sociocultural Studies > PhD Language/Literacy/Sociocultural Studies. Identify specific faculty members with whom you hope to study. Please note: Prior to application, it is required that applicants meet with one program faculty member whose work is linked to applicants’ research goals. It is also strongly encouraged that applicants meet with two other faculty members, either in person or remotely. Faculty list can be accessed here. |
Letter of Intent | Submit a letter of intent telling us why you wish to pursue a degree in this department. Please describe your academic background and experience that prepare you for researching your questions of interest, the professional future you are working toward, and the way your advanced degree in Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies will contribute toward that future. Admittance to the doctoral program is highly selective, and depends on how your application (including the letter of intent and your writing sample) provides evidence of:
