Application Instructions
The following information is provided to help the prospective student successfully apply for admission to the Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences (PhD) graduate program at the University of New Mexico. Although Graduate Studies strives to keep this information up-to-date, we still encourage you to visit the program's website to verify application deadlines, instructions, and required materials.
Please note: These instructions are for PhD applications only; application instructions for the MA program are available here.

Educational Background | You may submit unofficial transcripts to apply, but the Office of Admissions will require official transcripts for their administrative purposes. |

Letter of Intent | The letter of intent must detail the reasons for requesting admission to the Doctoral program, including a summary of future professional plans and why the OILS Doctoral degree is necessary for the accomplishment of these plans. The letter should also include a full description of past academic and professional accomplishments and relevant experience. Any additional information which can be supplied will add to the evaluators' review. |
Writing Sample | Two recent samples of professional or scholarly writing by the applicant are required. |
CV/Resume | Please upload a current resume providing a summary of the applicant's experience and how this experience relates to the proposed doctoral study in OILS. Publications, memberships in professional organizations, and speaking engagements are examples. |
Assistantship Interest | Applicants should designate their interest in an assistantship as well as list their research experience and background. |
Recommendations | Three (3) letters of recommendation are required. They should be from persons familiar with your academic ability and potential for doctoral-level work. Emails of the references will be required in the online application, and they will be informed to upload the recommendation letters directly to the system. *Faculty advisors in the OILS department are not allowed to submit letters of recommendation on any students behalf. |
