Application Instructions
The following information is provided to help the prospective student successfully apply for admission to the Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education (EdD and PhD) graduate programs at the University of New Mexico. Although Graduate Studies strives to keep this information up-to-date, we still encourage you to visit the program's website to verify application instructions and required materials.
International students (including non-U.S. citizens on a visa) generally must complete additional steps, including verifying English proficiency, to apply to a graduate program at UNM. Please see the Global Education Office's International Admissions website for more information.

Fall Admission | Fall Admission: Applications received by December 1 will receive priority consideration for financial aid. International students should also submit completed applications by December 1. Applications submitted after December 1 will be reviewed on a rolling basis through February 28. |

Letter of Intent | Please limit your letter of intent to a maximum of two pages. In your letter please address: your previous educational and professional experiences; your specific research/scholarly interests in curriculum and pedagogy; why you would like to pursue a research doctorate in curriculum and pedagogy at UNM; your academic and professional goals; faculty member(s) with whom you would be interested in working. |
Writing Sample | Please submit a writing sample, preferably an academic paper, that indicates your readiness to engage in a research doctoral program. Examples include a major research paper, a Baccalaureate or Master's thesis, or a scholarly publication. |
CV/Resume | Please submit a current CV/résumé that reflects your academic and professional experiences and achievements, details of any teaching experience, research or scholarly activity if appropriate, and relevant community service in which you have engaged. We encourage students to seek guidance in producing a well-written résumé/curriculum vitae. |
Recommendations | Please provide three letters of recommendation. At least two letters should be academic references who can speak to your readiness to undertake doctoral study. One letter may be from a professional source. |
