Instructions for the Request for Certificate of Completion
If you need verification of the completion of your degree requirements for applications or employment, you can submit a request for a Certificate of Completion. This is an effective tool to show that you have finished your degree requirements before your degree appears on your transcript.
Please email the completed form to grad@unm.edu. Submitting the form from your UNM email address will serve as your signature on the document. Requests must be submitted no later than seven (7) working days after the last day of your graduation semester.
Guidelines:
1. The graduate student must fill out all requested information on the form.
2. All Bursar’s Holds must be resolved prior to the Certificate of Completion request.
3. Certificates of Completion are issued once a student’s degree requirements are met, and no later than seven (7) working days after the last day of the graduation semester. This timeline ensures sufficient time for processing and verification of degree requirements.
2. Graduate Studies staff will issue Certificates of Completion within (5) working days upon request. Graduate Studies staff will verify that all degree requirements have been met and that the student is on the proposed graduation list before this request is processed. Only ONE certificate will be issued.
3. If grades are not entered yet for standard graded courses, Graduate Studies staff will issue a letter to verify that the degree will be awarded pending successful completion of courses.
4. Once degrees are awarded, students should request an official UNM transcript for any future degree verification.
Note: Certificate of Completion requests only are available upon request for graduate students in main-campus programs and MS/PhD degrees in Health Sciences. (The Law School, Ellis School, and HSC Professional degrees have their own procedures and processes.)
