The following information is provided to help the prospective student successfully apply for admission to the Special Education (MA) graduate program at the University of New Mexico. Although Graduate Studies strives to keep this information up-to-date, we still encourage you to visit the program's website to verify application instructions and required materials.
Please note: These instructions are for application the MA only; PhD applications instructions are available here.
International students (including non-U.S. citizen permanent residents) generally must complete additional steps, including verifying English proficiency, to apply to a graduate program at UNM. Please see the Global Education Office's International Admissions website for more information.

Educational Background | Required. Please include unofficial transcripts in the online application and submit official transcripts to UNM (transcripts from UNM excepted). |
Program of Interest | Select: College of Education and Human Sciences > Special Education > MA Special Education |
Test Scores | Please upload New Mexico Basic Skills Exam test scores if you have taken the exam. |
Letter of Intent | This is your opportunity to tell the program faculty about yourself. It is recommended that you provide information about your areas of research interest, previous experience, and your goals. |
CV/Resume | Optional. |
Special Requirements | Please complete the MA Special Education Application Form and upload to the Special Requirements section in your online application. The completed form may also be added to addendum section in your online application after submission. |
Recommendations | Three letters of recommendation are required. The program recommends that at least one letter be from a college instructor, one from an employer, and one from another professional contact. |
