Application Instructions
The following information is provided to help the prospective student successfully apply for admission to the Art Education graduate program at the University of New Mexico. Although Graduate Studies strives to keep this information up-to-date, we still encourage you to visit the program's website to verify application instructions and required materials.

Letter of Intent | A letter to the ARTE faculty, two pages max, including a brief introduction of yourself, a clear statement of the goals or objectives that you wish to accomplish in your graduate study, a brief statement about your current concept or philosophy of art education, and anything significant you think we should know about you. Please state if you intend to pursue the MA with/or without licensure. |
Writing Sample | Please include a brief artistic statement regarding your art work. |
CV/Resume | Include the areas of education, professional experience, art exhibitions or published writing, teaching background, or any other important information. |
Relevant Coursework | Must have a minimum of 18 prerequisite credit hours of coursework in art history and art studio. |
Special Requirements | Ten (10) color images of your most recent artwork that you will upload as a digital portfolio or a link to the website on which your portfolio is attached. Provide a list of the images you attached with your name, the media, title (if applicable), and approximate size of the piece. |
Assistantship Interest | No special instructions. |
Recommendations | Three (3) Letters of Recommendation signed by the recommenders. Professional references from former professors with whom you have studied or supervisors who have observed you teaching or working in an educational capacity. |
