Graduate Studies is pleased to announce the forthcoming June 2022 release of Teaching Matters: A Guide for Graduate Students, a book written by UNM’s own Dr. Aeron Haynie, Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (who also oversees the Graduate Teaching Academy, a joint effort with Graduate Studies), and Dr. Stephanie Spong, Director of the CTL's Center for Digital Learning. Written specifically for graduate student instructors, the book pairs current research with first-hand experiences from present-day and past graduate students from a multitude of disciplines. Featuring a “just-in-time checklist” for graduate students who are assigned to teach courses on short notice, detailed directions for writing an effective teaching philosophy, and an emphasis on teaching well regardless of modality, the book should prove helpful and relevant for graduate student instructors at all stages of their careers.
